Dockery Ford - Mark Donohue - #11B 1965 Shelby G.T 350R Limited Edition - Estimated Production 500 Pieces This is one of the few original 1965 GT 350 "R" models ever produced by Shelby American. The GT350R was the first time an American manufacturer offered a strictly-for-racing competition model which could be purchased from a dealer and which would require nothing after delivery. These cars could literally be delivered directly to the track and raced the way they came off the transport. This particular "R" model was 1 of 2 sponsored by Dockery Ford of Morristown, N.J. for the 1966 season. The Dockery dealership was very involved in racing and wanted a big name driver for their car. Reynolds Ford - 1965 Shelby GT350 Limited Edition - Estimated Production 500 Pieces Features include: • Opening doors, hood and trunk • Poseable steering • Plumbed and wired engine • Race interior• Detailed undercarriage A Texan, a racer and a sportscar builder, Carroll Shelby joined forces with the Ford Motor Company in 1965 to create the ''father of muscle phenomenon'', a tremendous version of the Mustang that was made to tear up the racetrack, as well as cruise the streets.Ford commissioned Shelby to create a Mustang to compete in the SCCA B-Production Championship. Thanks to various weight-saving measures, the GT350 tipped the scales at 224 lbs. less than a regular V8-engined Mustang. Performance was further improved thanks to an array of chassis modifications and a tuned 306bhp motor.

He wanted to turn Ford's secretary sports car into a track champion. So, Ford sent him three white K-code 1965 Mustangs. Serial number 5R002 would become the very first GT350R prototype and is arguably the most important Mustang in history! 5R002 would have multiple parts tested on it with drivers such as Ken Miles and Bob Bondurant behind the wheel, fenders widened by hand, the famous rear window designed by Peter Brock that let air escape, reverse hood scoop, and so much more! 5R002, aka the "Flying Mustang", would win its first race it ever entered on February 14,1965 with Ken Miles piloting the car to victory. Miles and others would compile 10 wins with 5R002 throughout the season with Jerry Titus capturing the SCCA B Production Championship for 1965!

He is known as "Big Daddy" to drag racing fans around the world. Always a pioneer in the field of drag racing, he perfected the rear-engine "top fuel dragster design", an innovation motivated by the loss of part of his foot in a dragster accident. This design was notably safer, since it put most of the fuel processing and rotating parts of the dragster behind the driver. The driver was placed in "clear air," in front of nearly all the mechanical components, thus protecting the driver and allowing him to activate a variety of safety equipment in the event of catastrophic mechanical failure or a fire. Garlits was also an early promoter of the full-body, fire-resistant driver's suit - complete with socks and gloves, often branded as Nomex. Garlits was the first drag racer to officially surpass the 170, 180, 200, 240, 250, and 270 miles per hour marks in the quarter mile; he was also the first to top 200 in the 1/8 mile. He has been inducted into several Halls of Fame and has won many awards during his career.

Dan Gurney and Bob Bondurant were at the wheel asthey had been during the historic winning effort at Le Mans. Gurney set the fastest GT qualifying timeduring the race. Unfortunately, a broken tail shaft on the transmission put the car out of the raceduring the 2nd hour. This Daytona would go down infamy by having the unique distinction of carrying the famous DanGurney for President stickers on the rear fenders of the car. The only time that this ever happened!The candidacy was initiated and supported by the ever popular Car and Driver magazine.
