North American Canadair Sabre RCAF Golden HawksPostage Stamp CollectionThe Canadair Sabre was a varient of F-86 Sabre jet fighter aircraft built by Canadair under license from North American Aviation. It was equipped with the Canadian-built Orenda engine which enhanced altitude performace and climb rate over the previous versions while retaining excellent low-speed characteristics. It was considered to be the best production Sabres ever built. The Canadian public best remembers the Sabre as the aircraft of the RCAF Golden Hawks aerobatic flying team, which performed dazzling aerial displays in the 1960s. Initially a six-plane team flying the brilliantly-painted metallic-gold Canadair Sabres were supposed to perform for one year, but the Golden Hawks were so popular after their initial 1970 season that the team was expanded. The Golden Hawks continued performing for three more seasons until they were disbanded in 1964, having flown a total of 317 shows accross North America. Canadair Sabre 6 #23651 is on displat at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Mount Hope, Ontario. This Die-cast metal airplane model comes in 1:110 scale with plastic stand and is approximately 4 inches long with 4 inch wingspan.

To highlight this feature, theaircraft’s nose is painted with the shark mouth nose art reminiscent of the famousP-40 Warhawk “Flying Tigers” (AVG). Supermarine Spitfire MK. II RAF - Battle of BritainPostage Stamp CollectionThe Supermarine Spitfire is a single-seat fighter aircraft used by the RAF and many Allied countries during World War II. Designed by R.J. Mitchell and produced by Supermarine, the Spitfire was designed with remarkably thin elliptical wings with the thinnest possible cross-section, which enabled it to travel at speeds that exceeded those of other aircraft fighters of its time. Equipped with a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, and 8 x 0.303" Browning machine guns, the Spitfire was a fast and maneuverable fighter and was the only fighter aircraft to be in continual production and development before, during and after the war.During the Battle of Britain, which was the first major campaign to be fought entirely by air forces, the Spitfire was part of an important battle tactic, where the Spitfire squadrons were sent up to engage the German fighter escorts, leaving the Hurricane to attack the German bombers. The spitfire Mk IIa, serial P7966 D-B "Manxman" was the aircraft of Wing Commander Douglas Bader, a RAF Fighter Ace, when he started leading the Tangmere Wing in March of 1941. The P7966 was one of the first to carry CO Bader's initials on the fuselage instead of standard code markings. This Die-cast metal airplane model comes in 1:93 scale with plastic stand and is approximately 3 3/4 inches long with 4 3/4 inch wingspan.

The A-1 Skyraider had excellent low-speed maneuverability and carried a large amount of ordnance with long loiter capabilities that made it competitive against jet-powered airplanes.Lt. j.g. W. Thomas Patton was part of four VA-176 Skyraiders that launched off from USS Intrepid flying as "Papoose Flight". On October 9, 1966 as part of a search and rescue mission they encountered four North Vietnamese MiG-17 jet fighters. Using low-speed maneuverability and their four 20mm cannon effectively, they were credited with one MiG-17 destroyed by Patton's A-1H Skyraider "Papoose 409", and two others destroyed or damaged by his squadron mates.

F4 Phantom II Jolly Rogers VFA-84Postage Stamp Collection The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is regarded as one of the most successful fighter designs of all time. It is a two-seat twinjet long-range supersonic interceptor and fighter-bomber originally developed for the United States Navy. With top speed more than twice the speed of sound, the F-4 established 16 speed, altitude, and time-to-climb records. An all-around performer, the F-4 Phantom was the first aircraft to be simultaneously used by the USAF, USN and USMC, while also serving in approximately 11 other countries. The Jolly Rogers have always displayed some of the most recognizable squadron markings in the world: sinister white skull-and-crossbones on all-black tails, named for flags flown by pirate ships about to attack. NASA Lockheed YF-12Postage Stamp CollectionThe YF-12 was an experimental fighter-interceptor version of the Lockheed A-12 reconnaissance aircraft. YF-12s were used in a joint Air Force-NASA research program to study the thermal, structural, and aerodynamic effects of sustained, high-altitude flights. The YF-12 was fabricated primarily from titanium alloy and was painted flat black, which enabled it to withstand high stresses in altitude and temperatures over 500°F. The YF-12 set a speed record of 2,070.101 mph and an altitude record of 80,257.65 feet in 1965. It was never adopted by the military as an operational aircraft. It was, however, a precursor to the SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance plane. The only YF-12 left in existence is currently displayed at the U.S. Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.This die-cast metal model comes in 1:200 scale with plastic stand and is approximately 6 3/16 inches long with 3 3/16 inch wingspan.
