The world famous Blue Angels, a United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, use their C-130, nicknamed “Fat Albert” for logistics purposes, in order to ferry spare parts, equipment and support personnel between air shows. Vought F4U Corsair - VFM-214 "Black Sheep" - Pappy BoyingtonPostage Stamp CollectionDie-cast metal plane with plastic stand The F4U Corsair was a naval fighter aircraft used by the United States Navy and Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War. Its excellent capabilities and performance made it very successful for the USMC. The F4U had a long production life span and was last produced in 1952. It had a max speed of 417 mph and carried six .50 caliber machine guns or four 20mm cannons, as well as a pair of 2000 lb. bombs and air rockets.F4U aircraft #86 was piloted by Maj. Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, Commanding Officer of the VMF-214 "Black Sheep" Squadron who fought their way to fame in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. Flying out of their home airfield out of Vella Lavella, the "Black Sheep" piled up a record 203 planes destroyed or damaged, troop transports and supply ships sunk, and ground installations destroyed in their first 84 days. Boyington himself claims a record 28 total kills. He was shot down on January 3, 1944 and was a prisoner of war for 20 months until the Japanese surrender. He was awarded both the Medal of Honor and Navy Cross on October, 1945. The mid-1970s television show "Baa Baa Black Sheep" was very loosely based on his memoirs.

B-17 Flying Fortress - USAAF - Nine 'O' NinePostage Stamp CollectionThe B-17 Flying Fortress is a four-engine heavy bomber aircraft developed by Boeing for the United States Army Air Corps. It was a high-flying, long-range bomber, heavily used in World War II for daylight precision bombing of strategic military targets. It was highly effective and reliable, and developed a reputation of being able to return to its home base despite extensive battle damage.The B-17 Nine-O-Nine was named after the last three digits of her serial number: 42-31909, and is representative of the B-17's tough reputation. After joining the war in 1944, the Nine-O-Nine completed 132 consecutive missions without aborting for mechanical reasons or loss of crew, believed to be a record. In all she flew 1,129 hours and dropped 562,000 pounds of bombs before returning to the US at the end of hostilities.The Collings Foundation currently operates a fully restored and operational B-17G in "Nine-O-Nine" colors, in honor of the veterans of the World War II. It is one of the finest B-17 restorations ever done and can be seen at the Wings of Freedom airshow that visits 120 cities nationwide. B-25J Mitchell - Betty's Dream Postage Stamp Collection This Die-cast metal airplane model comes in 1:100 scale with plastic stand. The B-25 Mitchell is a medium bomber named in honor of General Billy Mitchell, a United States Army general who is widely regarded as the father of the US Air Force. The B-25 is a two-engine propeller driven aircraft with an H-tail configuration and is considered to be a safe and reliable aircraft. It was used extensively during World War II by the Allies, especially on the Pacific Front. Panchito was assigned to Captain Don Sailer of the 396th Bomb Group in the Central Pacific. He named it after the feisty Mexican rooster from the 1943 animated musical "Three Caballeros". It was restored to vintage flying conditions in 1986. It is available for rides at various airshows across the country and is based out of the Delaware Aviation Museum Foundation in Georgetown, DE.
