1968 Oldsmobile Hurst Olds 2-Door Post in Peruvian SilverFeatures Include:• Opening doors and hood• Accurate interior and chassis• Steerable front wheels• Detailed engine As a result of a remarkable joint venture between Hurst and Oldsmobile the 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds, was fabricated as a limited production car. Only 64 out of the 515 that were built, were sport coupes. This 1-of-64 sports coupe is Demmer Engineered number 463. Optional for this model was the Peruvian Silver body, black stripe details, 455 Engine, and W30 equipment. The interior is upholstered in black with the exception of a walnut wood accent panel installed across the bottom of the dash and around the Hurst dual gate shifter. It was built and then shipped from Demmer Engineering on July 3, 1968 to the Paul Clark Oldsmobile dealership in North Carolina. When Tim and Leia Wong purchased this car in May 2000, they learned it still had the numbers-matching engine and matching OW-code transmission with the Hurst dual-gate shifter.

Their quality and detail garnered the attention of the rich and famous across the United States in the early 20th century. One such vehicle stood above the rest—the 1935 Duesenberg SSJ Speedster. With a shorter wheelbase than the J and SJ models, plus a supercharged straight-8 with double overhead cams, it produced more than 400hp, launching the car to 140mph!Only two SSJ Speedsters were ever actually built. The first was painted gray-on-gray and owned by actor Gary Cooper. The second was a red and metallic green Speedster lent to Clark Gable, an established Duesenberg customer in 1936. Both of these Duesenbergs were identical, except for their colors. As expensive and rare as these cars were, Cooper and Gable were actually known to race their cars in the Hollywood hills! It wasn’t just a refresh of the 1968s, it was a complete ground-up rework of the giant muscle-yacht. It was a purpose-built car as envisioned by John Deloreon, the general manager of GM’s Pontiac Motor Division of the time. Deloreon wanted to capture the entire experience of old luxury marques like Duesenberg, Cadillac, and Packard of the 1930s. Monikers like J and SJ, properly befit the Grand Prix name.Royal Pontiac, of Royal Oak, MI was already well known to enthusiastically dabble in the domain of Pontiac performance. The Grand Prix was no exception, despite its massive size. With a hood-mounded tachometer, Royal optioned these 4000lb cars with the 428 H.O. 4bbl engine rated at 390hp. They spun the same camshaft as the Ram Air III engine in the GTO with compression of 10.75:1. It was a formidable machine on the street, but didn’t look the part. Many “muscle” cars that dared to challenge were only viewed in the Grand Prix’s rear view. Only 12 of these Matador Red Royal Bobcat Grand Prix models were ever built in 1969.

The flathead V8 was upped to 255 CID and now producing 110 horsepower—slightly more power than the also newly designed 1949 Ford Coupe. A new overdrive system was optional, activated by a handle under the dash. The Mercury Eight used full instrumentation found in round dials, two on either side of the large central speedometer, and an optional eight-tube radio and electric clock were centered on the dashboard. The styling of the Mercury Eight, when it was released in 1949, adopted the “pontoon” appearance, and was successful in both ending the monotony of warmed-over pre-war style, and differentiating Mercury from its comparable Ford cousin, a trick that spelled sales success. The 1949 Mercury Eight production totaled an astounding 301,307 units, far and away Mercury's best ever year.

All previous owners preserved a variety of reports, receipts, and printed materials detailing its history. Adding to its distinction, this 1969 Shelby GT-500 is fully-documented as one of the first 100 built. Under the hood is the original Cobra Jet V8 with the VIN to match. Specific to the Shelby is the fiberglass body panels, front bumper, grille, headlights, and 5-scoop NACA duct hood. Built at the GM plant in Flint, Michigan, it is thought to be 1 out of 108 GS 455 Stage 1 Buick cars that were painted Burgundy Mist with a white roof. That number includes automatics. It’s also 1 out of only 193 Stage 1 models with a 4-speed that sported the optional air conditioner. Peek at the interior, and you’ll find all-white seats, matching door panels, black carpeting, and a detailed dash.Although in pristine condition, this wasn’t always the case as this gem was hidden away in a shop for a 5-year restoration project.
