Built at the GM plant in Flint, Michigan, it is thought to be 1 out of 108 GS 455 Stage 1 Buick cars that were painted Burgundy Mist with a white roof. That number includes automatics. It’s also 1 out of only 193 Stage 1 models with a 4-speed that sported the optional air conditioner. Peek at the interior, and you’ll find all-white seats, matching door panels, black carpeting, and a detailed dash.Although in pristine condition, this wasn’t always the case as this gem was hidden away in a shop for a 5-year restoration project. Not for nothing, that long journey paid off. Still with all its original metal, and even better than before, it was entered into the 2021 MCACN show where it scored the emerald-level award with the highest points for a stock Buick. Of those, merely 200 are accounted for today and about 12 were painted Royal Plum accented with white sport stripes on the hood and deck lid. Most interestingly, this exceptional muscle machine is the only one known to still exist. It rolls on four Rally wheels with redline polyglass tires. Under the hood is the meticulously-detailed 302 Turbo Fire engine throwing power to the 4-speed Muncie transmission. It features power disc brakes with rare four piston design calipers and heavy duty suspension. This beauty also sports the hideaway headlights available on the RS package. Its sleek interior features black bucket seats, power quick-ratio steering with simulated wood steering wheel, a black console with full gauge cluster, and AM radio. The swept lines became longer, the fins grew larger, and the front grill was nothing short of bold...and GOLD. The 1957 Chevy Bel Air became one of the most recognizable cars in the entire car industry. In fact, it became an icon of an entire era. Over 65 years later, there are few things more quintessentially American than baseball, mom’s apple pie, or a 1957 Chevy Bel Air.The 1957 Bel Air was only available with a V8. Only two carbureted versions were offered initially: a 162hp dual-barrel or a 180hp four-barrel. Later in the year, a larger 283 V8 was released, also with a four-barrel carb, making 220hp. The ultimate option was the rare and expensive fuel-injected 283 shared with the Corvette making 283hp. These were dubbed “fuelies”.
