Dockery Ford - Mark Donohue - #11B 1965 Shelby G.T 350R Limited Edition - Estimated Production 500 Pieces This is one of the few original 1965 GT 350 "R" models ever produced by Shelby American. The GT350R was the first time an American manufacturer offered a strictly-for-racing competition model which could be purchased from a dealer and which would require nothing after delivery. These cars could literally be delivered directly to the track and raced the way they came off the transport. This particular "R" model was 1 of 2 sponsored by Dockery Ford of Morristown, N.J. for the 1966 season. The Dockery dealership was very involved in racing and wanted a big name driver for their car. Competing, and winning, in the Stock, Super Stock and Pro Stock classes, he set records with Pontiacs and, later, Plymouths, earning multiple Stock Eliminator titles with both marques. Through it all, he built the cars in a backyard garage and often drove his open ramp truck to the track and back. In fact, Chrysler hired Vanke to test their performance technology. In 1967, Arlen modified the RO23 Hemi intake manifold for racing. "NHRA rules allowed racers to modify the intake manifold, so I made the stock manifold into a plenum chamber manifold, " he said. Vanke's Hemi, along with the Sox & Martin team, gave Mopars so many victories in the late '60s that they dominated the scene in Super Stocks. In 1968, he built this incredible HEMI Cuda that we are so proud to offer. He won the Nationals in August at Indy running SS/B with his 1968 Plymouth Hemi Cuda. He then reset the record again with a 10.61 at 140 miles per hour in the Cuda in SS/A at the Winternationals in Pomona, California.

Later research by Bianchi discovered the Steve McQueen/Solar Productions origins as one of several purchased for the Baja desert race program. Accompanying the sale was a copy of the original dealer invoice from December 1969 showing Steve McQueen/Solar Productions as the first purchaser of this 1970 K5. When delivered, the Blazer was reportedly set up as a support vehicle for the actual off-road race, getting a front posi traction differential installed and a swap to a four-headlamp GMC grille to allow better light coverage in the desert night.
