Produced by North American Aviation it was used extensively against the Soviet MiG-15 in high-speed aerial dogfights during the Korean War (1950–1953). Considered one of the best and most important fighter aircraft in that war, the F-86 is also rated highly in comparison with fighters of its generation. Although it was developed in the late 1940s and outdated by the end of the '50s, the Sabre proved versatile and adaptable. Aircraft continued to serve as a front-line fighter in numerous air forces until 1990’s.The F-86 Sabre "MIG MAD MARINE" was Maj. John Glenn’s jet-fighter. John Herschel Glenn, Jr. was a U.S. Marine Corps pilot who flew with the U.S. Air Force’s 51st Fighter Wing as an exchange pilot. He actually named his assigned aircraft “Lyn Annie Dave” for his wife and two kids but did not see much action. The flight crew surprised him with a new paint job, a big red M with letters trailing off it to read "MIG MAD MARINE" to change his luck. He shot down three MiGs near the Yalu River in the last 2 weeks of the war.After Korean War John Glenn (Colonel. USMC. Ret.) went on to be a test pilot, an astronaut and US Senator.

It was originally developed for the US Air Force, but later was operated by the armed forces of more than a dozen nations from 1958 to 2004. The F-104 was designed with a unique set of extremely thin trapezoidal wings and was the first combat aircraft capable of sustained Mach 2 flight. It set numerous world records, including both airspeed and altitude records, and was the first aircraft to have held both records simultaneously.Aircraft 56-901 served with the U.S. Air Force during the height of the Cold War in the 1960s. This aircraft set the altitude and speed record for an operational F-104C reaching 92,000 feet at a speed of 2.5 Mach while stationed in Hahn Germany with the 479th Tactical Fighter Wing in 1962.Aircraft 56-901 is currently on display at the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, CT.

An all-around performer the F-4 Phantom II simultaneously served the USAF, USN and the USMC, the first American aircraft to do so, while also serving in approximately 11 other countries.Fighter Squadron 111 (VF-111), also known as the Sundowners is perhaps the most famous Pacific fleet squadron with an iconic insignia. During the Vietnam War, VF-111 made seven deployments, flying over 12,500 combat missions. In 1971, VF-111 joined CVW-15 (NL), on board CVA-43 USS Coral Sea, and transitioned to the F-4 Phantom II.
