Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, Commanding Officer of the VMF-214 "Black Sheep" Squadron who fought their way to fame in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. Flying out of their home airfield out of Vella Lavella, the "Black Sheep" piled up a record 203 planes destroyed or damaged, troop transports and supply ships sunk, and ground installations destroyed in their first 84 days. Boyington himself claims a record 28 total kills. He was shot down on January 3, 1944 and was a prisoner of war for 20 months until the Japanese surrender. He was awarded both the Medal of Honor and Navy Cross on October, 1945. The mid-1970s television show "Baa Baa Black Sheep" was very loosely based on his memoirs.

With the aid of drop tanks (auxiliary fuel tanks), the P-47 could cover long distances and was feared because of its eight .50 caliber guns. The P-47 was the heaviest single engine WWII fighter and the first piston powered fighter to exceed 500 mph.This P-47 has been painted to represent "Snafu" as flown by the 78th Fighter Group stationed in England in late 1944 to battle enemy Luftwaffe fighters and provide escort to Allied heavy bombers. It has been restored to its wartime condition by The Fighter Collection, a private operator of airworthy vintage military aircraft based at historic Duxford Airfield in Cambridgeshire, UK.

It was a single-engined carrier fighter with permanently mounted wing tip fuel tanks, armed with four 20 mm (0.79 in) cannons and a wide assortment of air-to-ground munitions.The Panther scored the first Navy air victory of the war by shooting down a North Korean Yak-9 and had underrated dog-fighting capabilities. But it was more famous as a tough bird that brought its pilots home, including three celebrated Korean War pilots: Boston Red Sox slugger Ted Williams and future astronauts John Glenn and Neil Armstrong.

When the tail on Lt. Richard Clinite's all-aluminum Panther sustained heavy flak damage it was replaced with the tail from a damaged blue-painted Panther giving Lt. Richard Clinite's plane it's distinctive look. He successfully flew several missions on this plane until it was so badly hit by flak that it was permanently grounded for major repair.

B-25J Mitchell - Betty's Dream Postage Stamp Collection This Die-cast metal airplane model comes in 1:100 scale with plastic stand. The B-25 Mitchell is a medium bomber named in honor of General Billy Mitchell, a United States Army general who is widely regarded as the father of the US Air Force. The B-25 is a two-engine propeller driven aircraft with an H-tail configuration and is considered to be a safe and reliable aircraft. It was used extensively during World War II by the Allies, especially on the Pacific Front. Panchito was assigned to Captain Don Sailer of the 396th Bomb Group in the Central Pacific. He named it after the feisty Mexican rooster from the 1943 animated musical "Three Caballeros". It was restored to vintage flying conditions in 1986. It is available for rides at various airshows across the country and is based out of the Delaware Aviation Museum Foundation in Georgetown, DE.
