It entered service in 1964 and has been continuously upgraded and operated by 8 different nations, making it the most widely used AEW system in the world. Established in April 1967 the VAW-116 Sun Kings is a US Navy Command and Control Squadron that has a long and colorful history dating back to the Vietnam War Era. Invented by Orville and Wilbur Wright (the Wright Brothers), the Wright Flyer was based on the brothers' research and experiments testing kites and gliders. On December 17, 1903 the Wrights flew four flights at Kill Devil Hills near Kitty Hawk, NC. Taking turns, beginning at 10:35 AM, Orville flew about 120 Feet in about 12 seconds. Wilbur then flew about 175 feet, followed by Orville flying 200 feet. At approximately 12:00 PM, Wilbur flew 852 feet in 59 seconds, making history.Model is in 1:72 scale, comes with plastic base. The Hurricane entered squadron service in 1937 and was the workhorse of Britain's air defense during World War II. It became renowned during the Battle of Britain, accounting for 60 percent of the RAF air victories in the battle.The Mk.IID was the tropicalized version mainly used in North Africa after the entry of Italy in the war. Although outclassed in the air by the Luftwaffe's Me-109 and Italy's MC.202, the Hurricane retained an edge in ground-attack role due to its impressive armament. It was nicknamed "Flying Can Openers" due to a pair of 40mm Vickers anti-tank cannon fitted under each wing. They became well known as the aircraft of the famous Flying Tigers, the American Volunteer Group flying for the Chinese Air Force against the Japanese. P-40s were used by the Air Forces of 28 nations and gained reputation for durability and toughness.The P-40 was the main USAAF fighter aircraft in the Pacific Ocean theater during the early stages of World War II. During the attack on Pearl Harbor, most of the USAAF's P-40s were destroyed in the initial attack. However, a few P-40s managed to get in the air and shoot down several Japanese aircraft, most notably by George Welch and Kenneth Taylor.
