Of those, merely 200 are accounted for today and about 12 were painted Royal Plum accented with white sport stripes on the hood and deck lid. Most interestingly, this exceptional muscle machine is the only one known to still exist. It rolls on four Rally wheels with redline polyglass tires. Under the hood is the meticulously-detailed 302 Turbo Fire engine throwing power to the 4-speed Muncie transmission. It features power disc brakes with rare four piston design calipers and heavy duty suspension. This beauty also sports the hideaway headlights available on the RS package. The early 1970s began the drawdown of the big-dogs in the muscle car world. At 385hp, the 1971 GTX 440+6 remained mostly unchanged from a power standpoint from the previous years. It was a beast that competed with the best of the muscle cars of the day running under 14 seconds in the quarter mile, topping off at more than 100mph through the traps. After 1971, the GTX became an optional package on the Road Runner, rather than a stand-alone badge.
