North American F-86 Sabre "Mig Mad Marine"Postage Stamp CollectionDie-cast metal plane iwth plastic stand The F-86 Sabre is the United States' first swept wing jet-fighter. Produced by North American Aviation it was used extensively against the Soviet MiG-15 in high-speed aerial dogfights during the Korean War (1950–1953). Considered one of the best and most important fighter aircraft in that war, the F-86 is also rated highly in comparison with fighters of its generation. Although it was developed in the late 1940s and outdated by the end of the '50s, the Sabre proved versatile and adaptable. Aircraft continued to serve as a front-line fighter in numerous air forces until 1990’s.The F-86 Sabre "MIG MAD MARINE" was Maj. John Glenn’s jet-fighter. John Herschel Glenn, Jr. was a U.S. Marine Corps pilot who flew with the U.S. Air Force’s 51st Fighter Wing as an exchange pilot. He actually named his assigned aircraft “Lyn Annie Dave” for his wife and two kids but did not see much action. The flight crew surprised him with a new paint job, a big red M with letters trailing off it to read "MIG MAD MARINE" to change his luck. He shot down three MiGs near the Yalu River in the last 2 weeks of the war. After Korean War John Glenn (Colonel. USMC. Ret.) went on to be a test pilot, an astronaut and US Senator.

A-6 Intruder - VA-52 KnightridersPostage Stamp CollectionThe A-6 Intruder was a carrier-based twin Jet-engine all weather attack aircraft operated by the US Navy and Marine Corps between 1963 and 1997. A-6 intruders first saw action during the Vietnam War, where the aircraft's long range and heavy payload coupled with its ability to fly in all-weather made it invaluable during the war. The Intruder's side by side seating enhanced its ability to fulfill its typical mission profile of flying low to deliver its payload. The intruder used vastly upgraded navigation and attack systems and advanced radar to navigate through mountain valleys at low levels in order to minimize the aircraft's risk from enemy radar-guided missles. The VA-52 Knightriders were proud operators of the Intruder from November 1967 to December 1994. They became the most decoraed Intruder squadron for its sustained efforts during the Vietnam War.This die-cast metal model comes in 1/140 scale with stand. UH-1 US Army Huey Medevac Postage Stamp CollectionDie-cast model with plastic display stand Developed by Bell Helicopter, the “Huey” was nicknamed after the phonetic sound of its original designation, the HU-1 Iroquois. In 1962 the designation was changed to UH-1, but “Huey” remained and became so popular that Bell began casting the name on the helicopter’s anti-torque pedals. The Huey was developed in 1952 in order to meet the United States Army’s requirement for a medical evacuation and utility helicopter. With its first flight on October 20, 1956, the Huey began arriving in Vietnam in 1963. Used for MEDEVAC, command and control, and air assault, Hueys became, more than any other aircraft, a symbol of the Vietnam War. The Huey’s ability to carry patients inside the aircraft was a key element in the reduction of mortality and morbidity. Medical personnel could begin treatment during the flight to a field hospital, reducing the average delay until treatment to one hour, helping to reduce the mortality rate to 1 death per 100 casualties. With the unmistakable sound of its blades, the sound of an approaching Huey was said by those that served in Vietnam to be the sound of rescue, the sound of freedom and the sound of going home.
